The Aristarchus telescope
The Aristarchus telescope is the largest in the Balkans and the second largest in Europe. The Observatory Chelmos is located in Achaia and on the second highest peak of Mountain Helmos named Neraidorahi at an altitude of 2,340 meters near the ski center of Kalavryta. There is the place where Aristarchus has installed the telescope. The name comes from Aristarchus from the island of Samos,who was an astronomer of antiquity. The site where it is located is one of Europe’s places with the lowest light pollution and the telescope is above the clouds. The Aristarchus telescope is one of the most technologically advanced telescopes in Europe, and has a diameter of 2.3 meters and great precision on targeting and tracking celestial objects.
