PLANITERO

On a distance of about 25 km. from Kalavryta, on the road leading to the region of Klitoria, you will find the picturesque Planitero at an altitude of 700m in a unique landscape dominated by walnut trees and plane trees around the sources of Aroaniou river. You can see the traditional watermill and try the delicious trouts which are being reared in the region. Planitero is the beginning of some interesting trekking paths to Elatofyto, Mazi (half an hour) and Ntourntouvana (6 hours). Also the E4 trail to Loussi (4 hours) and Kalavrita (6.5 hours). Through the lush you can see the beautiful village Arbounas. An incredible forest of perennial trees, the fullings - one of which is still running – and the sources of Aroanios river with waters that flow through the rocks, make Planitero a very favorite destination even for a day trip.

CAVE OF THE LAKES OF CASTRIES

The "Cave of the Lakes" is located near the village Castries of the municipality Lefkasio of Achaia, on the provincial road Patras-Kalavryta-Kleitoria-Tripoli. It is only 17 km. away from Kalavrita and 9 km. away from Klitoria. The cave is a rare creation of nature. Apart from its labyrinth of corridors, its mysterious galleries and its strange stalactite formations, is also has something exclusively unique: successive terraced lakes (spanning three floors), which makes it unique in the world! The developed part of the cave is currently 500 meters and it includes artistic lighting. The visitor enters to the cave through an artificial tunnel which leads straight to the second floor. The dimensions of this section makes the visitor feel respect, ecstasy and admiration. The crossing of the lakes is made by small man-made bridges. On the ground floor of the cave, there were found fossilized human bones and also various animals’ bones including hippopotamus. Leaving the Cave of the Lakes you can see nearby the Planitero which is located in a beautiful natural setting with running waters and tall trees there operates a stone tavern where you can taste trout or salmon.

THE CANYON OF VOURAEKOS RIVER

The canyon of Vouraekos River is one of the most beautiful natural attractions of our country. The special feature of the canyon is the little train that crosses from end to end. The train offers its passengers a magical journey with majestic wild beauty, towering rock formations and waterfalls, continuing at the narrowest point of the route called "Doors" where the train goes through a tunnel. Next to the train a path exists,is which marked with the symbols of European path E4 used by Greek and foreign hikers. The path to the download takes about 6 hours and to climb about 7-8 hours.
